Hindle High School

Hindle High School is a secondary school located in City of Cape Town and was established in 2009
. It has approximately 35 teachers and 1300 learners under the leadership of the Principal Mr. Jansen. This school has had the best matric results in the Delft South area since 2010 and has continually been successful no matter the odds. Since the school’s opening educators have not only did what was required of them but they have gone beyond the call of duty. Delft being at the center of gangsterism, teenage pregnancies, dropouts and drug use, a school like Hindle High School was needed with its educators that encouraged hard work, dedication, success and hope for learners that saw no future beyond Delft. The school created soccer, rugby, netball and chess teams to keep learners busy and later when the girls complained about only having netball, the school created the girl’s touch rugby team. Through these sports learners were given the opportunity to see the world outside of Delft, and the chance to show off their talent. Hindle High School also as a partnership with an organization called the Blue Bus Project which has programmes to deal with teenage pregnancy, positive life skills, reading rooms, music appreciation and therapeutic drama classes. The project has also enabled the school to have a choir and has given learners the opportunity, myself included to go see different universities and engage with other schools also involved in the project. The educators of the school really do go out of their way to make sure learners have the tools needed to apply for universities and bursaries. For Delft, the school is a sign of hope as Hindle High School is filled with successful stories. The school also offers the use of its hall to the New Apostolic congregation as Delft does not have many built churches. As a previous Hindle High School student, I am honored to have a attended this school and I would not be on university today if not for the help of my educators and their encouragement to look beyond Delft.
