Black Box Theatre

Black Box Theatre is a performance art theatre at Delft rent office. The theatre was established to enable and help the youth of Delft, it offers a range of activities for the whole community. It not only offers performance classes but also workout, knitting, computer and reading classes. The theatre has been over seen for two decades by community leaders who invested their time and effort into the building, so it does not get vandalized or misused. It has been the theatre’s mission to create a safe place for the youth and showcase Delft’s talent. Once a month, on a Saturday the theatre puts on a showcase outside of the theatre of dancers, poems, rappers, singers and plays. During this time, the community is given something to eat, by doing this they attract more bodies to the theatre. The theatre has 8 different classes a day and offers a workshop on Mondays for the work seekers. Being one of Delft’s longest standing buildings, this theatre has improved the community and changed so many lives. Through this theatre so many children of Delft have had the opportunity to show their talent to the world, and most recently the learnership with Artscape Theatre Centre many local performers will get the chance to gain more experience and learn from the best. The theatre has created jobs for locals and entertainment for the community, where guns shoots and murders happen daily. This theatre has been a great example of what Delft’s youth is capable of when there is resources and effort put into them. I recently joined the Zumba classes and have seen the great work that these people are doing at the theatre and how welcoming they are to newcomers. There is even a new project about to start at the theatre which faces the issue of drug addiction, this is prove that change is possible no matter the circumstances.
